Section 6 – Influence

The Scottish Government’s ‘Climate change – Net Zero Nation: public engagement strategy’ identifies the opportunity to ‘Utilise the potential of the arts, creativity and heritage to inspire and empower the culture change’ needed to transform to net zero. This aligns with the The Scottish Government’s ‘Arts, culture and heritage’ cultural strategy for Scotland, which includes the aims to ‘place culture as a central consideration across all policy areas, including reducing inequality and realising a greener and more innovative future’.

Arts and culture are uniquely placed to help transform society in response to climate change. This section gives you space to share any projects that fit into this influence category of environmental action, whether that is work with the general public, other organisations, decision makers or other groups.

If you wish to see the guidance for a specific question, please use the question list below.

6.1. How did your organisation use influence through this event to help audiences, suppliers and/or partners make more sustainable decisions or increase their awareness of climate change issues?

Provide details of the actions taken in the planning, preparation and delivery of your event this year focused on influencing others to take climate action. This could be about the programming of your event, how you communicated with audiences, artists and collaborators, or any advocacy work you have undertaken.

Please use this space to talk about any key achievements and milestones, but also any barriers or difficulties you faced.

This question should be used to report what has already happened. 4.2 is where you can talk about future actions.

Reason for question

The potential impact of culture’s influence is much greater than the emissions reductions organisations can take internally. Therefore, we are interested to understand actions taken to influence people and organisations, so we can highlight important work and support where required.

6.2. How does your organisation plan to use its influence to help audiences, suppliers and/or partners make more sustainable decisions or increase their awareness of climate change issues throughout its multi-year funding period?

Please use this space to detail your planned future actions around influencing others to take climate action through your event. This could be about the programming of your event, how you plan to communicate with audiences, artists and collaborators, or any advocacy work you are planning.

You will see a row for each delivery year for which your event is funded (as selected in 1.4). You may wish to report different actions each year or overarching actions across the whole period.
