Call for collaborators

Are you interested in using the arts and culture to help create a more environmentally sustainable and just Scotland?

The Green Tease call for collaborators supports people interested in environmental sustainability and creativity to organise events to exchange ideas, knowledge and practices with the aim of building new connections between their areas of work.

We are looking for ideas for creative events connecting the arts and environmentalism as part of Green Tease, an ongoing informal events programme connecting cultural practices and environmental sustainability across Scotland. These events are micro-funded by and organised in collaboration with us. There is no deadline and this call is run on a rolling basis.

‘The Green Tease was…an opportunity to connect communities with larger infrastructures and sectors across the arts and ecology. It feels as though we are ready to move forward in a beautifully creative way, connecting artistic process with grassroots activism.’

Martin O’Neill, Artistic Director at The Stove Network, collaborator on a Green Tease in 2023.

Green Teases are free, open to people from both artistic and environmental backgrounds, and environmentally sustainable in design as far as possible. They can take place anywhere in Scotland or online. We do not usually support events that are primarily of use only to artists or only to sustainability practitioners. These are also useful, but they are not the focus of the Green Tease programme. Instead, we aim for participants to be mix of professionals working in both creative and sustainability fields.

‘The event and the atmosphere we created were absolutely fantastic. It extended an invitation to Scotland to reimagine the retrofit of our homes, streets, schemes and neighbourhoods as a site rich in just transition opportunities and possibilities. Much gratitude to everyone who made the afternoon-long event possible and may it lead to many more actions, collaborations and gatherings of its kind!’

Scott McAulay (Anthropocene A.S.), collaborator on Reimagining Retrofit Green Tease.

We welcome creative and non-standard approaches and formats. We have a particular interest in addressing issues of climate justice, but there are no restrictions on themes or subject matter, as long as it is relevant to our audiences. Events should be accessible and inclusive – our expectations are laid out in our safe working statement.

We will work with you in collaboration to organise the event. Although there is some budget attached, this is primarily an opportunity to work with us rather than a funding opportunity.

‘Reminding ourselves of the impact of digital emissions is often a sobering experience. Doing so amongst peers at Zines for Change added a vital element of positivity, potential and shared learning to spark hope for a better collective future shaped by us all. Seeing the creativity brought to light by such a pressing conversation was a hopeful moment in this often challenging journey and it was a pleasure to facilitate this with all those gathered in the room.’

Rachel Arthur (boom saloon), collaborator on Zines for Change Green Tease in 2024.

‘I would hope that in terms of the conversation around community landownership, the evening served as part of an ongoing process of people gaining inspiration, identifying challenges and forming ideas together.’

Richard Bracken, artist and collaborator on a Green Tease about radical landownership in 2023.

Your ideas do not need to be fully realised and can be developed further in conversation with us. However, if we receive a lot of applications, we may prioritise ideas that are more developed.

We particularly welcome applications from ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, people from working class backgrounds and any others who may face barriers to involvement in the arts or environmentalism in Scotland. We accept applications in other formats, such as video. If you would like support to complete your application, please contact Eleanor using the email address in the next paragraph.

We will provide feedback to anyone whose idea is not chosen. If we choose to work with you, we will set up a call to discuss things with you and talk through how we can work together. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
