Working within the CCS team as a freelance consultant from February 2025 to March 2026, the appointee will develop a compelling case study to provide an example of best environmental practice in the Scottish screen production industry and present it in various formats: live, recorded and in document form.
They will research training needs in the industry, and develop and deliver appropriate training modules, including training aimed at increasing the number of sustainability co-ordinators working in Scotland. They will be the main point of contact on sustainability for the whole industry and will collate information that can contribute to the longer-term strategic direction of support for sustainability in the industry in Scotland. They will be supported by the wider CCS team and will join the team for appropriate meetings.

This contract is offered as a freelance contract for 130 days between February 2025 and 31 March 2026 at the rate of £252/seven-hour day.

Context
Culture for Climate Scotland has been awarded funds from Screen Scotland to develop environmental services for the screen industry in Scotland. This is a partnership project, led by CCS and delivered in partnership with Screen Scotland, BECTU, Glasgow City Council, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands & Islands Enterprise.
This project builds on previous work by the Screen Sustainability Manager working with BECTU Vision, and on reports by Culture for Climate Scotland (2020) – then operating as Creative Carbon Scotland – on greening Scotland’s screen industry and EKOS consultants (2024) on developing a screen sustainability hub.
The aim is to collate and co-ordinate existing support and resources, to connect with and disseminate knowledge of that support to Scotland-based productions and to help create a clear proposal for future strategic environmental sustainability support of the screen sector in Scotland.
The outputs of the 14-month project will inform the support Creative Scotland and Screen Scotland offers to the sector through any future environmental service provider. It should establish whether they would be able to offer a single point of support across all art forms on common climate challenges or whether it would require more differentiated approaches. The consultant will undertake the work in close collaboration with Culture for Climate Scotland.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced screen industry professional to enable us to deliver this work. Culture for Climate Scotland has strong knowledge and experience of supporting and developing climate change work in the cultural sector but lacks the specific knowledge and expertise related to sustainability in the screen industry. We are looking for someone to fill that role, working closely with the rest of the team who will bring expertise in areas including data collection and analysis, training (both live and via recorded media), web content and development, communications and strategy work.
We are seeking a freelance operator to work for 130 seven-hour days over the period February 2025 to 31 March 2026. We recognise that there will be busy periods and others when you will want to work elsewhere in the industry. The timing of your work will be agreed with CCS on appointment. As a consultant you will work as a freelancer embedded within the CCS team, which will both provide support and learn from your experience and knowledge. We expect that you will join our Green Arts team as well as the wider CCS team overall. Our Director, Ben Twist will be your line manager, working closely with our Green Arts Manager, Caro Overy.
This is an opportunity for an experienced sustainability co-ordinator in the industry to take the next step and to work as a sustainability consultant with a highly successful organisation on an exciting and much needed development area for the screen industry in Scotland.
